To whom it may concern, My name is Joe Stephens, and I am a recent graduate from San Diego State University, with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. I am inquiring about the position of AUV Operations engineer at MBARI. As a newly graduated Mechanical Engineer, I am confident that I possess the necessary tools to succeed in this role, despite my lack of an oceanographic background. My resume reflects the internships that were available to me at the time, and illustrates my work ethic throughout my college education. Specific to this position, I have been the project lead on multiple mechanical design projects, and am very proficient at CAD design software such as Solidworks, AutoCAD, and Creo. In these projects I performed careful pre manufacturing inspections as well as performed finite element analysis on individual parts as well as comprehensive assemblies. I created drawings of individual parts compliant with GD&T protocols. These projects were also manufactured by myself and my team, where I became familiar with machining processes of CNC, milling, water-jetting, and sheet metal fabrication. For my CAPSTONE project, I utilized my problem solving skills and familiarity with MATLAB software to develop a piping simulation of a Geothermal power plant. I excelled in my classes on control systems and manufacturing processes, and hope to utilize my knowledge in these fields in my future of mechanical design. I am reliable, a problem solver, and intensely curious about the work being done at MBARI. I have had a passion for the ocean as long as I can remember, and actively surf, sail, swim, and SCUBA dive. I have attached a link to a video on my CAPSTONE project, a link to my Linkedin profile, and my resume. I appreciate any consideration.
