Overview -

This is the device support package for SEANAV PCDAS A398C419.  Both SEANAV and
SEANAV2 systems are supported by this package.

You must have the common utility PCDAS package A398C737 (at least version 2.09)
installed to operate this software.


Installation -

The installation checks for the presence of at least version 2.09 of A398C737
common utilities package before proceeding with the device package installation.

If there is already a previous version of this SEANAV device support package on
the machine, it is recommended that you uninstall this first before installing
the new version.  It is not enforced, you can install this version as an "update"
to the previous version, and it will keep track of all cumulative versions in
order to be able to uninstall everything.  But, you will accumulate old files
and selections that are not associated with the current version if you do not
uninstall the previous version before installing this version.

Insert the CDROM containing the SEANAV device support package into a CDROM reader
drive attached to the MS-Windows system.  If the autostart does not launch the
setup.exe program on the CDROM, launch the setup.exe program manually by double
clicking it from Windows Explorer.

The installer program will prompt the user for required information, suggesting
defaults in each case.  Some of the prompts only apply to specific prior selections,
so the user's selections along the way will affect the prompts that are presented.

The user may select a "standard" installation to install the full package with
default options and minimal user prompts, or "custom" installation to be prompted
with each selectable option.

The following settings are used by the installer:

Destination Directory - this is the location to which the common utilities package
will be installed.  By default, this will be a directory in the system's program
files location.  The "standard" installation uses the default value without prompting
the user.

Select Components - this allows the user to select a full installation of all
components, or individual components by grouping or individual selection.  The
"standard" installation includes all components as a full installation, without
prompting the user.  SEANAV and SEANAV2 components are grouped for easy selection.

Start menu shortcuts are provided (under group "Kearfott") to allow easy access to
rerun the installer/setup program, uninstall, and read the included documentation.
SEANAV and SEANAV2 are separate start menu items below "Kearfott".

The CDU program uses a preference file to specify which channels are active and what
settings to use for each.  This preference file also specifies the default latitude,
longitude, and altitude used on data entry forms.  A start menu item is provided to
edit this preference file to customize it as needed.  Note that this edit must be
performed as an administrator (on Windows Vista and up that means with elevation,
not just logged in as an administrator).  The edit function will check for this,
and if not sufficient will display instructions for running as administrator and
displaying the preferences file (without edit capability).

Printing is supported to the default Windows printer for the CDU and PRINT
programs.  The PLOT program allows selection of a Windows printer when a
printout is requested, defaulting to the Windows default printer.  Any
Windows supported printer may be used.


Operation -

The installation includes the following batch files to start the applications with
  the appropriate command line parameters:

CDU.BAT     - invokes the monitor software to communicate with SEANAV.
CDU2.BAT    - invokes the monitor software to communicate with SEANAV2.

FILES.BAT   - invokes the data recording file manager.
RECOVER.BAT - invokes the data recording file manager in recovery mode.

PLOT.BAT    - invokes the plot data reduction software for SEANAV data.
PLOT2.BAT   - invokes the plot data reduction software for SEANAV2 data.

PRIN.BAT    - invokes the print data reduction software for SEANAV data.
PRIN2.BAT   - invokes the print data reduction software for SEANAV2 data.

BINARY2SPOOL.BAT  - invokes a utility to create a spool data file from a
                    binary capture of serial port data.  This spool data
                    file can then be analyzed with the print and plot.

Windows Start menu shortcuts are installed for each of the batch files, the
  programs may be launched either from the start menu shortcut or by running
  the batch file from a command window.
