Step Models

Add step model to OrCAD pcb symbol ( aka: footprint )

Setup ... Step Package Mapping ... Yes

Mode: Package

Available step models ... scroll then select 

Adjust X Y Z and rotation

File ... Save ... Overwrite ... Yes


Open PCB  ... Place ... Update Symbols ... choose the package symbol just edited

  check box: Update Step mapping data only
  
  Refresh ... Close
  
Adjust the reference designator

File ... Save ... Overwrite ... Yes


Exporting a PCB as a STEP model

Open PCB ... click on 3D icon

Dialog box opens ... leave defaults selected ( Outer Layers and All Objects and Primary Models )

click OK

3D Canvas opens

Use View ... Camera to look at Top, Bottom, etc.

Use File ... Export 

Give it a filename

Choose Files of type: STEP files (*.step*)

Writing the file can take a while

Close the 3D Canvas window


Open Solidworks

Drag in the step file just created

Reading the file can take a while
