Power and data budgets
SSDS requirements for MSE

- Need to order instruments ASAP: SIAM critical path

- new instruments and deployment resources should go in MSE budget (Aug 5) for final proposal

Barry: Norteks (2) 6000 m 2MHz HR profiler $17.8k incl. embedded pucks 
	(problems in very clear water?)
	may be settings for different conditions

Wetlabs 3 chan BB2F/BB3F/FLNTU
	BB3F 3 independent channels
	use HS2s? replace all?
	use all the same (HS2 cost 2x ECO)?
	OK to use HS2 on 20m cage, but cleaner to use all the same. (chfr)
	disadvantages: comparing different instruments, ECOs will have embedded pucks
	may be worth getting prototype BB3 and putting it on ROV to see how it behaves
	over large dynamic range
	price break for flntu?
	flntu and bb3F optically the same
	units? NTU, backscatter units are all relative
	have a conference call w/ Ian (or someone who has used the instruments
	ideally, we'd have all the same, spare pool can be smaller, many other tasks become simpler
	number needed 9/12(if no HS2s) 
	
Satlantic ISUS: ok to order

Anderaa Optrode:
	- differences between listed instruments? comms interface? housing?
	- slow response (not as good on CTDs), but sensitivity is good
	- biofouling issues? pretty good at depth, some sediment film

Satlantic shutter: 
	not for surface unit in air
	all subsurface have shutters
	OCR3000->Hyper OCR

Seabirds:
	37SM have analog inputs? no...
	SBE16 do have analog channels (xmissometer, fluorometers, seapoint OBS)
	have 2 SBE16s, need complete instr cluster spare for ROV swap
	need to have complete BIN replacement (should we have 2 BIN replacements)
	what is diff btw SBE16, SBE16 Plus? 

Sediment Traps:
	usu 10-14 cups, depl length
	need to know time line, when to deploy traps
	easier to use pt sur
	6 traps, 2800 m cable
	height of traps on deck limits use of W. Flyer
	
	
Sampling Rates:
	what can ADCP do at 10 sec bin avging? 

Data Management:
	what is snapshot strategy?
	decimated data? needed to detect events
	health and status?
	ability to request high frequency data needed
	if we can't to really fast samping, then we need event detection
	does siam manage instrument on board storage?
	ussler wants to use snapshot data to detect plume and respond with CTD cruise
	(needs to justify mobilizing flyer)
	digital pictures (1 MB photo, 1x/day)

SSDS:
	specific data requirements gathering
	data products, plots
	web site
	larger scale, much development as we go
	first order of business: give people a place to get their data (chfr)
	camera data...render picture? just provide bits?
	need to scope work before phase 1 proposal
	how to manage data snapshots...how is raw data defined
	for MSE, no requirement to externally present data
	need list of what processing is needed by who, and who is responsible for processing steps

Profilers:
	both seahorse and mclane will be connected to SIAM
	4 hour sample period
	battery powered

Instrument Access:
	it is possible to log in to mooring and talk directly to instrument
	low bandwidth, not expensive up to a point (3000 min/mon, $0.17->$0.45)

Sediment Trap Data:
	go out and recover, dump data and put into SSDS
