WHOI Cable version 2.0 released 11 July 2000 WHOI Cable is copyright 1997-2000, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution Woods Hole, MA 02543 Unauthorized use or redistribution of WHOI Cable software is strictly prohibited This is the README file for version 2.0 of WHOI Cable. For a complete list of changes between this and older versions see the file CHANGELOG. If you have any questions about the changes or discover a bug then please contact us via email at jgobat@whoi.edu. There is a new technical report that provides documentation on how to use WHOI Cable, WHOI-2000-08, "WHOI Cable v2.0: Time domain numerical simulation of moored and towed oceanographic systems". You may want to keep the previous technical report as it contains technical information that was not reproduced in the the new version. The new version does contain complete instruction for using WHOI Cable, however. With version 1.1 the distribution method for WHOI Cable is via ftp. There is a new ftp site: ftp.whoi.edu. From a DOS prompt type "ftp ftp.whoi.edu" When prompted enter the login name cable and give the password provided on your license agreement. At the ftp prompt enter the commands "bi" and "get wcbl200.exe" to download the software. When the download has finished type "quit". Alternatively, from your browser go to ftp://cable@ftp.whoi.edu and give the license password when prompted. Download the latest version by clicking on it. Note that the latest version will always be the file wcblXXX.exe where XXX is the highest number in the directory. Once the file is downloaded simply execute wcbl200.exe to unpack and install all the necessary files. When the installation is finished you should have a WHOI Cable entry under Start menu -> programs. You still also need an X server to run animate (the server requirement has been eliminated for other programs). Go to http://www.starnet.com to get a very functional free demo program that will work fine for most applications.
