ABSTRACT:  Instructions for shipping ADCP through Customs.

INSTRUMENT/PROGRAM AFFECTED:  All systems

DESCRIPTION:  When returning your system to RDI for repair, refurbishment, or
upgrade, you can help reduce the transit time, especially if your system must
pass through customs.

SOLUTION/ACTION:  The following special shipping instructions may help to
reduce the transit time when returning your system to RDI.

  1. NEVER ship an ADCP with lithium battery packs installed!  In most cases,
     we do NOT need NOR want your lithium battery packs.  However, if you have
     arranged to return your lithium battery packs to us, you MUST send them
     separately.  Many restrictions apply to lithium battery packs, so check
     with your shipping service first.

  2. Please ship your system in its original shipping container.  Pack the
     instrument in the container with the "R D Instruments" identification
     label facing upward for easy viewing.  Customs officials find it hard to
     rotate the ADCP when it is in the container.  We have received reports
     that the "customs process" tends to slow down when this happens.
