         FSB-087 - TRANSECT CFG/ADCP HARDWARE CONFLICT IN ACQUIRE MENU
                  DATE/REV:  20JUN95 / 0 (previously FSB95-7)

ABSTRACT:  An error in the TRANSECT program may cause an Acquire Menu warning
message about a conflict between the CFG file and ADCP hardware information.

INSTRUMENT/PROGRAM AFFECTED:  All ADCPs using Broadband TRANSECT (v2.72 or
earlier) or Narrowband TRANSECT (v1.82 or earlier).

DESCRIPTION:  On some occasions, TRANSECT displays a message in the Acquire
Menu that reads, "WARNING:  CFG hardware information is different from ADCP." 
Normally, this message indicates that the hardware information stored in the
configuration (.CFG) file does not match the hardware information stored in
the ADCP's firmware.  The hardware conflict/s are shown in TRANSECT's "ADCP
CONFIG." window in the Acquire Menu.

This warning message typically occurs (1) When a conflict truly exists, (2)
When you use TRANSECT for the first time on a new or borrowed system, (3)
After installing an upgraded firmware chip, or (4) When you use (e.g., borrow)
a CFG file that was created on another ADCP.

SOLUTION/ACTION:  Description items (2), (3), and (4), above, occur because
the TRANSECT program does not read and write the hardware information in the
proper sequence.  You can easily correct this problem or determine if a con-
flict really exists by taking the following actions.

  1. Start TRANSECT as you normally would.
  2. If necessary, load the configuration (.CFG) file that causes the warning
     message to appear.
  3. Go to the Acquire Menu to verify the warning occurs.
  4. Exit the Acquire Menu and go to the Communication Menu.
  5. Use the Verify Communications "button" to establish communications with
     the ADCP.  We will assume this is successful.
  6. When you exit the Communication Menu, make sure you select the SAVE op-
     tion.  This will cause the ADCP to write its correct settings to the
     currently-loaded CFG file.
  7. Go to the Acquire Menu again and verify the warning does NOT occur.
  8. If the warning continues to appear, contact RDI.
