INSTRUMENT/PROGRAM AFFECTED: All RDI software programs. DESCRIPTION: Users of RDI software programs occasionally report "unexplain- able" problems. Many times, these programs are random, or cannot be duplicat- ed on RDI's test computers. SOLUTION/ACTION: Although we test our programs on different computers using different configurations, we do not have the facilities to perform "robust" testing. We have found that several software problems can be "corrected" by taking the following actions. 1. Remove any TSR programs that may be interfering with the RDI program. A TSR program is a program that runs in the background in your computer's memory. For example, a TSR program may be a program that enhances your display, or checks your keyboard for certain keystrokes, or runs a screen saver. In general, you can remove (or REM) individual TSR programs from your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files until you find the one that inter- feres with the RDI program. If the TSR program does not interfere with the RDI program, you can leave the TSR program installed. 2. Remove any virus-checking programs that may interfere with the RDI pro- gram. This includes virus-checkers residing in CMOS that must be switched OFF within your computer's CMOS setup routine. 3. Do not run the RDI program through Windows or any other DOS "shell." 4. When using "older" RDI programs (versions before 1994), run your computer at a slower processing speed. In all cases, check with RDI to see if a revised version of our program ex- ists. If you discover a problem related to the "robustness" of an RDI pro- gram, please let us know.
