ABSTRACT:  Shows how to download new firmware for Workhorse ADCPs.

INSTRUMENT/PROGRAM AFFECTED:  All Workhorse ADCPs

DESCRIPTION:  To download firmware, you will need the program FLASH and the
*.abs firmware file (supplied by RDI).

SOLUTION/ACTION:  Please add this FSB to your Technical Manual.

To download new firmware, do the following steps.

1.  Place the firmware upgrade disk in your computer's floppy drive.  Select
    the drive by typing A: (or B:).

2.  Set up the Workhorse as shown in Chapter 1 of the Workhorse Technical
    Manual.

3.  At the DOS prompt, type the following command; FLASH -O WHnnn.ABS #
         Where: 
            -O = dash letter "O" (not zero)
           nnn = new firmware version
             # = COM port 1 or 2 (what port Workhorse is connected to)

       Example:  FLASH -O WH809.ABS 2  (FIRMWARE VERSION 8.09, COM 2)

   You should see a message similar to the following:

       Flash version 2.00
       Copyright 1994-96, RD Instruments. All rights reserved.

       Press <ESC> to cancel
       Waking up device at COM2:9600,N,8,1 ... AWAKE
       Are you sure you want to allow boot sector overwrite (Y/N)? Y
