 FSB-111 - RECOVERING "SAME-NAME" DEPLOYMENT FILES IN WORKHORSE

ABSTRACT:  Certain Workhorse Sentinel systems mistakenly allow
duplicate deployment-data file names.

INSTRUMENT/PROGRAM AFFECTED:  Workhorse Sentinel firmware version
8.16 and earlier.

DESCRIPTION:  When restarting a deployment under certain
conditions, the recorder in the Workhorse Sentinel (CPU v8.16 and
earlier) can create one or more data files with the same name.
This is a problem when trying to recover the data because the
recovery software will overwrite each of the files with the next
one of the same name in the list. This results in only the last
file being actually recovered to your disk. However, you can
manually recover the data using the following procedure.

SOLUTION/ACTION:

Short-Term Work-around - To recover all data from the recorder,
proceed as follows:

  1. Connect your computer to your Workhorse ADCP.
  2. Run the BBTALK program.
  3. Send a BREAK to the ADCP (<End> key).
  4. Send a CR1 to the ADCP.
  5. Send RR to the ADCP to list the files.
  6. Send RY## to the ADCP, where ## is the file number to
     retrieve.  You will be prompted to "Start host now" after
     this command is accepted.  NOTE: The files do not have
     numbers next to them, so you must count the files from top
     to bottom starting with number 1 to obtain the value for ##.
     It is possible to have so many files that the screen will
     scroll.  If this happens you can use the pause button to
     stop the data display.  However, you may need to run RR
     again to relist the files.
  7. Press <Ctrl-PgDn> to turn on Y-modem capture in BBTALK.
  8. After the transfer is complete, exit BBTALK and rename the
     file.
  9. Repeat steps 2-8 until all files are recovered.

Long-Term Solution - This problem was corrected in firmware
version 8.17 and later.  Visit our web/ftp site to download the
latest firmware upgrade, or contact RDI for details.
