Fixed the following problem: If a user clicked the software upgrade button immediately after the Connect button, the Authentication dialog could appear after the Software Upgrade dialog appeared. If the user typed in the correct Service Programming Code (establishing a full connection), then clicked Cancel on the software upgrade dialog, the connection did not properly close. Now the UTPST will properly close the connection in this situation. 2. Added code to warn a user if they try to set the Globalstar Home Service Provider MCC and MNC to values that match a prohibited entry on the Service Provider List. 3. Fixed problem where DMI errors in SMS entries saved to the .pst data file would cause the UTPST to crash when attempting to read the .pst file in. The UTPST now properly ignores SMS entries with DMI errors in the .pst file. 4. For UT Type, changed "Marine" to "Maritime" and "Data Module" to "Data Modem." 5. Fixed support for displaying and entering non-English characters in the NAM Name, Banner, Last Call Dialed Digits Text, Service Provider List MCC Name, and Service Provider List MNC Name fields. Note that in order to properly display and edit Russian characters in these fields, the UTPST relies on the system Regional Settings for the Windows operating system under which it is installed. The Regional Setting of 'English (United States)' allows display and editing of English, French, Spanish, and Portuguese but does not allow proper display and editing of Russian characters. For Russian on Windows NT 4.0, you must set the PC's Regional Settings to Russian and add keyboard support for Russian. To change Regional Settings from the Control Panel, you may need the Windows CDs for installing additional operating system files on your PC. You must also set the desired Regional Setting as the default system locale. Changing Regional Settings may require you to restart your PC as well. You can add additional keyboard support via the Control Panel. For this, you may need the Windows CDs for installing additional operating system files on your PC; however, you should not have to restart your PC. On Windows 2000, the Control Panel applet is called Regional Options. In order to properly display Russian characters under Windows 2000, you must install Cyrillic character support by selecting 'Cyrillic' in Language Settings for System. Then you must select Russian as the default system locale and add Russian keyboard support. On Windows 98, you must select the Windows codepage when Windows 98 is installed. Once it is installed, you cannot change it from the Control Panel Regional Settings as in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000. To change the Windows codepage to Cyrillic (1251), you must re-run the Windows 98 installation. After that, the UTPST will allow proper view and configuration of Russian characters but will be unable to properly display Western European characters. 6. Fixed a bug where, when running under Windows 98, the UTPST was unable to utilize all 32 characters in phone number fields such as Directory Number. 7. Fixed a few minor memory leaks. 8. Fixed a problem where clicking the connect button, then immediately clicking the software upgrade button before the Authentication dialog appeared, could occasionally cause an error. 9. Added support for Data Services Baud Rate on the General dialog. This item appears only when the UTPST is connected to a phone that supports data services. 10. Added support for several Data Services items on the Phone Statistics dialog. These appear only when the UTPST is connected to a phone that supports data services. 11. Corrected AMPS First Paging Channel and AMPS First Control Channel to match the corresponding parameters in the Globalstar User Terminal Service Programming Guide. "Blank" now represents "unprogrammed" and the range is enforced to match the range described in the Service Programming Guide. 12. Fixed problems with connecting to newer phones that were in Low Power Mode. 13. Added additional syntax checking to the SID/NID Home Pairs in the CDMA NAM Settings dialog. 14. When a user closes the UTPST, it now remembers the directory last used with "Open Phone Settings File" separately from the directory last used for "Save Phone Settings to File" and "Save Phone Settings to File As." This means that the Open Phone Settings File dialog can now open to a different directory than the Save Phone Settings to File and Save Phone Settings to File As dialogs do. 15. Fixed a problem where the UTPST was corrupting Access Channel List elements 14 and above whenever the Access Channel List was updated. 16. Directory Number on the Globalstar NAM and Cellular NAM dialog boxes now supports up to 32 characters when the UTPST is connected to newer phone software that supports them. Directory Number accepts the digits 0 through 9, along with these characters: '+', '-', '#', '*', 'T', and 'H'. This is consistent with support for the phone book and emergency number entries. When connected to older phones, the UTPST does not allow non-numeric characters in the Directory Number, and also does not allow the user to enter more than 10 digits. In addition, on the Cellular NAM dialog box, the functionality of the Program MINs button has been enhanced to program the IMSI 11_12 and MCC values in the CDMA IMSI if the Directory Number has sufficient digits available to do so. It does this in the same way that the phone's user interface initializes IMSI 11_12 and MCC when extra directory digits are available. 17. Dynamic memory items such as SMS are now handled properly during phone swaps, software upgrades, and reading settings from files. See the section in the release notes on "Known Oddities/Bugs" for details. 18. Phone Swap and Open Phone Settings File now clear phone book entries that were already on the target phone prior to adding the entries from the source phone or source file. 19. Fixed situations where temporary files were not deleted during Software Upgrade, Boot Block Upgrade, and Phone Swap. Temporary settings files are still saved when Software Upgrade or Boot Block Upgrade abort. 20. There was a problem where attempting a software upgrade before the phone was fully connected could in rare circumstances cause the UTPST to shut down with a run-time error. This has been fixed. 21. With newer versions of UT software that allow retries with the connection password it is possible to retry a connect attempt even if an incorrect password is typed in. Before, UTPST would always fail even if the UT would allow another connection attempt. 22. UTPST can now connect more reliably to portable phones that are plugged in but are in Low Power mode. This mode can be recognized by the phone display stating "Power is OFF". The connection process takes several seconds longer than the connection process to a phone that is fully active. Before, the UTPST would always fail to connect to the phone in this situation. 23. In the Read Only Settings, Calibration Block Structure Version replaces Calibration Block Format Version when connected to phones that support the Calibration Block Structure Version. 24. Some minor problems with the syntax checking code in the phone book and Service Provider tabs have been corrected. 25. "X" for Close on Standard/Expert mode window has been removed. 26. For the CDMA NAM Settings, UTPST now warns users when there is a potential conflict between the settings for Preferred Cellular Mode and Allowed Cellular Modes. 27. UTPST can now handle status items that increase in size, allowing it additional flexibility in its requirement to support forward compatibility. 28. It should no longer be possible to set two Service Provider List entries to the same Preferred Position. 29. Volume ranges on the Sound tab now have spin buttons to make selecting sound values easier. 30. Configure Summary Data File dialog redesigned for better ease of use and compliance with Windows standards. No new parameters were added. 31. Add Button in Service Provide tab has "..." added for compliance with Windows standards. 32. In the Display tab, Show Time If Available entry, the UTC Only choice will only be available when connected to Tri-Mode portable phones. 33. Minor cosmetic changes on some displays to better line up display elements and improve look and feel. 34. Cancelling the Authentication dialog no longer produces an error message. 35. Save Phone Settings To File now uses the previous file name if there was a previous action to Save Phone Settings To File As during the same connection. 36. The splash screen and about box now display properly when the display is set to 256 colors. 37. Online help has been revised and updated for improved usability. ====================================================================== NEW FEATURES ====================================================================== 1. On Tri-Mode portable phones, the phone's memory layout for SMS messages has changed for phone software version 5.2. This version of the UTPST preserves the SMS data and properly restores it to the phone when the phone is upgraded to version 5.2. SMS data is also preserved when a version-5.2 phone reads in a .pst file that was created with an older phone. Previous releases of the UTPST existed prior to phone software version 5.2 and thus did not have the code necessary to perform this conversion. 2. Added support for the following new parameters: Sort Phonebook, Packet Data Preferred Mode. 3. Added Chinese as an option for the Language item. When connected to a phone that has Chinese language support built in, the UTPST will display "Chinese" in the Language combo box. For older phones that do not have Chinese built in, there will be no Chinese language option in the Language combo box. 4. Added support for the Globalstar GSP-1620 Satellite Packet Data Modem ("Data Modem"). 5. Added support for scripting. The UTPST exports an OLE Automation interface to allow any scripting language that supports loading OLE Automation objects to access UTPST functionality. The UTPST Scripting Application Programming Interface (API) is documented in the Globalstar UTPST Script API Reference Manual, 80-99114-1 Rev B. A PDF version of this manual is installed automatically in the UTPST installation directory, as pstapis.pdf. An Adobe Acrobat viewer installation program is available on the UTPST installation CD-ROM, in the Acrobat subdirectory. Perl and VBScript samples exist in the Samples directory, under the directory where UTPST is installed. 6. Added support for the phone parameter "New Message Alert". 7. Added support for the new QGFSP parameter "Pay Phone/PBX End Call Wink Duration." 8. Added support for UT 5.1 phones, including support for these UT 5.1 parameters: Globalstar Slotted Mode, Globalstar Slot Cycle Index. Also added support for EVRC parameters on Tri-Mode phones. 9. Added support to allow users to type in any COM port identifier desired in addition to the defaults of COM1 to COM4. 10. UT Type now recognizes Marine (type 3) and Data Modem (type 4). 11. Added Russian as an option for the Language item. When connected to a phone that has Russian language support built in, the UTPST will display 'Russian' in the Language combo box. For older phones that do not have Russian built in, there will be no Russian language option in the Language combo box. 12. Support for the new compressed format for UT software files. The compressed files can be identified by the ".hgz" suffix on their file names. When compressed files are used the software upgrade process is significantly speeded up. Older format UT software files (identified by the ".hex" suffix on their file names) continue to be supported. 13. Software Upgrade rewritten for greater usability. All choices have been placed in a dialog that saves all settings between invocations of the UTPST. The new Software Upgrade also allows a user to specify a file to be used to save settings during the upgrade, allowing additional flexibility in case of failure. Also, Software Upgrade no longer prompts for a password. Instead, Software Upgrade uses the password typed in for the connection that exists when initiating the software upgrade. The UTPST attempts to check for invalid software download files prior to download. Any files that are not in the format of standard phone software files are rejected immediately. 14. An additional menu option exists to allow Boot Block upgrades to the phone software. This option is similar to the new Software Upgrade functionality, except that it manages the process of a boot block upgrade alongside a main software upgrade. It is not possible to specify a boot block UT software file for a main UT software file and vice versa. Users who only wish to upgrade the main UT software should use the Software Upgrade menu option. 15. Warranty date code swap count in UT is now incremented during phone swap. Only the right-most digit is incremented by UTPST. When the right-most digit is nine, it is no longer incremented by UTPST during the phone swap process. 16. If the UTPST user connects to the phone, changes some settings but does not write them to the phone, then performs one of the following actions: * Close the UTPST, * Disconnect the UTPST from the phone, * Read in new phone settings from a file, then the UTPST will alert the user via a message box that they may potentially lose the changes they have already made. 17. For a software upgrade, boot block upgrade, and download RAM program, the Progress Display bar now indicates "Bytes Remaining" and "Percent Complete" in addition to "Time Remaining". 18. New items are now configurable by the UTPST: * Language * Last Call Dialed Digits (both text and number). 19. GFUT has been renamed to QGFSP. For the QGFSP, new tone sets have been added for Anatel and GAC. 20. The directory for the last Save Phone Settings To File/Save Phone Settings To File As is now saved between invocations of the phone. 21. The directory for the last Download RAM Program is now saved between invocations of the phone. Download RAM Program also warns the user if the program is not in standard UT software file format, though it will allow the user to proceed if they wish as this is sometimes a valid situation. ====================================================================== KNOWN ODDITIES/BUGS ====================================================================== 1. The sample scripts have a default connect password of "XXXXXX". This was done to prevent the service programming code from being revealed unnecessarily. If you attempt to run the script with this password, the connect attempt will simply fail and the script engine should indicate the line of failure. Simply change the "XXXXXX" to the correct service programming code for the phone and rerun the script. 2. When the Find tab is selected for the online help, the fonts may be differently sized than expected. There is no workaround at this time. 3. When connected to phones loaded with software versions prior to 4.3.5 for Single-Mode portable and digital fixed, and versions prior to 4.6.2 for Tri-Mode portables, the following problems exist: * If you phone swap with one of these phones as a TARGET phone, you may see some messages in the detailed results dialog such as "NV_SMS_MSGS_1 is critical AND failed writing to the phone. Not updated." * If you restore settings from a previously saved file and attempt to Write Data To Phone, the Write Data To Phone may fail with the error message dialog box, "UTPST encountered an error when attempting to write changes to the phone. One or more values may not have been written to the phone. Error code: 80004005. * If you software/boot block upgrade and view the detailed results dialog, you may see some messages such as "NV_SMS_MSGS_1 is critical AND failed writing to the phone. Not updated." You may also see messages such as "NV_UI_SP_MOBILE_DIALED_NUM is critical AND failed writing to the phone. Not updated." The only items that should have failed are the SMS messages and possibly NV_UI_SP_MOBILE_DIALED_NUM, which is the Globalstar Directory Number on older Single-Mode phones. They will not have transferred to the target phone. Other items should have transferred correctly and the phone should be fully operational and usable. The problem is in the UT (phone) software. The only workaround is to update the phone software to 4.3.5 or later for Single-Mode portable and digital fixed phones, or version 4.6.2 or later for Tri-Mode portables. There is no way to fix this from the UTPST other than upgrading the phone software. 4. When using Phone Swap, Software Upgrade, and Open Phone Settings File, any SMS messages restored to the phone will be displayed as "Duplicate" on the phone's user interface. The problem is in the phone software and will be fixed with a future version of the phone software. There is no workaround at this time. 5. When connected to a phone loaded with software version R4.6.2.4, directory numbers may be truncated to ten digits if the first ten characters in the directory number contain one or more of the following characters: '#', '*', 'T', '+', or 'H'. The problem is in the phone and will be fixed in a future version of the phone software. The only workaround at this time is to only use decimal digits and hyphens in the first ten digits of the directory number.
