Welcome

Use the wizard to guide you through the setup process. It provides a simple and reliable method for setting up your Digi One or Digi PortServer quickly. Before beginning, ensure that you have:

• Connected the Digi One or Digi PortServer to the network and powered it on.
• Recorded the Digi One or Digi PortServer MAC address, which is located on the bottom or back of the device. You will need this address to choose your device from the list of discovered devices that will appear during the next step.

Discover Device

• To begin setup, select your device from the list and then click Next.
• To rediscover devices, click Refresh.
• If your device is:
  • Listed in red, the device is misconfigured.
  • Not listed, the wizard could not locate it. See, Troubleshooting: Device not listed for more information.

Configure Network Settings

To configure network settings, make selections on this page.

Obtain IP Address settings automatically using DHCP
This option requires a DHCP server to assign network settings. The Digi One and Digi PortServer ship with the DHCP client feature enabled. So if your site has a DHCP server, choose this setting and your Digi One or Digi PortServer will request network settings from the server.

Use the following IP settings
This option requires that you gather network setting information from your network administrator and then input it on this wizard page. The IP address and subnet mask are required. The default gateway field is optional.

Configure Wireless Settings

Automatically connect...
Determines whether the Digi wireless device attempts to detect available wireless networks in its neighborhood and selects the closest network. If the selected network uses an encryption method that does not match the Digi device’s encryption mode and key, the device will be unable to connect to the network.

Network Name
Is the name or Service Set Identifier (SSID) of the network to which the device will connect.

Network Authentication

• Open - In Open System authentication, any wireless device can request authentication.
• Shared - Under Shared Key authentication, a Network Key (below) is required.

Data Encryption

• WEP - Enable Wired Equivalent Policy (WEP) encryption. If WEP is selected, the Network Key (below) is used to encrypt your network data.
• Disabled - No data encryption.

Network Key
Enter the network key for your wireless network. All devices on your network must use the same encryption key. The key is case-sensitive and must be entered in hexadecimal format. 64-bit versus 128-bit WEP data encryption is detected based on the length of the entered key

Country/Region
The country/region where the device will be used. The country setting must match the configuration of your wireless network.

Troubleshooting: Device not listed

• Hardware
  • Reset your Digi One or Digi PortServer to factory defaults. See the User Guide for more information
  • Ensure that the Digi One or Digi PortServer is powered on and connected to the network.
  • Check the LEDs to ensure that the device is working correctly. See the troubleshooting section in the User Guide for more information.
• Network
  • Ensure that your Digi One or Digi PortServer is on the same physical network as the wizard. Most routers will not pass device discovery broadcasts.
  • Ensure that the system running the wizard has a working network connection. (If the wizard discovers any devices, the network connection is working.)
• Firmware
  • Ensure that your Digi One or Digi PortServer is running the latest firmware.

Troubleshooting

• Network Settings: Verify the network settings with your network administrator. The Digi One or Digi PortServer must be on the same subnet as the default gateway (if specified). Consequently, their IP addresses (interpreted using the subnet mask) must indicate that they share a subnet.
• Each of the four address fields must be filled in with a decimal number between 1 and 255. Be sure to use the IP address assigned by your network administrator.
• Incorrect User Name or Password During the save process: the wizard passes the default root password to the Digi One or Digi PortServer. If the password has been changed, you will be prompted for the password. If you have forgotten the password, you will have to restore the default password by resetting the configuration to defaults. See the User Guide for information.
• Misconfigured Device: If the report indicates that the device was misconfigured, it means that the IP settings were not correct for the subnet that the Digi One or Digi PortServer operates. To correct this problem, press the Back button until you return to the Configure Network Settings page. Ensure that the network settings are correct and then try again.
• Ensure that the Digi One or Digi PortServer is powered on, connected to the network, and has completed the reboot. See the User Guide for hardware troubleshooting information.

Definitions

MAC Address - Also called an Ethernet address, physical address, or hardware address. Each Digi One or Digi PortServer has a unique MAC address. Here is an example of a MAC address: 00:40:9D:22:58:E0.
