Monique, the M-team feels that the outline of your plans to characterize phytoplankton communities from AUV sensors is excellent, and that the project is a natural extension of your very successful feasibility study. The project is likely to be supported, and the M-team would like you to expand its relevance as much as possible by including consideration of other ecosystem projects (CANON, Yanwu’s research, hot-spot attraction, etc.). Please explore these possibilities for your Phase I proposal. In addition, there appears to be great potential for machine learning in this project, and it would be worth exploring this (and the risk involved) and discussed or incorporated into the proposal. The more convincing the proposal can be that these techniques hold promise in this application the better.
