Welcome to Utility Software 2000 ------------------------------------ Utility Software 2000 simplifies the process of configuring your modules before installation into the final application. INSTALLATION MENU NOTES: ------------------------ Install the Utility Software by running the WINSETUP.EXE file located in the root directory of this CD-ROM. Upon completion of the Utility software installation process, a menu selection will be placed on the Windows Programs menu called "OMEGA UTILITY SOFTWARE". This menu selection contains all the Utility Software program files, website link and troubleshooting tips. Please review this menu selection by pressing the button in the lower left corner of your Windows desktop. Then select and search for Omega Utility Software from the list of programs loaded on your computer. A OMEGAQUICKSTART.PDF file is also included in the root directory that details specific steps to connect and configure your new module. An Acrobat reader will be required to view this .PDF file. If a reader is not installed on your machine then an a reader is available to install in the \ACROBAT folder on this CD-ROM. Additional Programs/Information on Distribution CD-ROM ------------------------------------------------------ A copy of this file is installed on your hard drive and you may also find this file on the distribution CD-ROM (\README.TXT). FILES: ------ The CD_ROM contains a number of individual files located in the root directory of the CD-ROM along with a series of folders. The files are listed below. WINSETUP.EXE The winsetup.exe program is the Windows Utility Software installation program. This program will install the Windows software and add all the data sheets and Users manuals onto a "Programs" menu selection "Omega Utility Software". Under the Utility software TOOLS menu selection there are a few wizards to help streamline the configuration of modules used in certain applications. If your application requires a D1000'C' type unit to be connected to a D4000 series module then a wizard is available to quickly configure the two modules without have to read alot of the manuals. If your application requires two D1711 or D1712 modules to communicate with each other then a wizard is available to quickly configure one module as all inputs and the other as all outputs. OMEGA.HTM The Omega.htm file is .html page that will link to our website. Other links of interest are also located on this page. OMEGAQUICKSTART.PDF This document contains information and illustrations to quickly connect your new module to a host computer. A software installation procedure is also included to step thru the process of installing software from the CD-ROM. FOLDERS: -------- The CD-ROM folders (or sub-directories) are listed below. \ACROBAT: Contains a copy of Acrobat Reader that can be installed on a computer that does not have a .pdf file reader. \VISUALC++ The \Visual C++ folder contains a installable Visual C project that calls a dynamic-link library to communicate with your new modules. Programmers that familiar with Visual C can put the .DLL into proper sub-directory and utilize this library. \DASYLAB The \DASYLAB folder contains many folders with information about the commercially available data acquisition program DasyLab. There is one folder named \30-day demo that contains a functional 30-day installation of the program. Another foler \cddemo contains a demo of the program that will run directly off this CD without installing files on your computer. If you already have Dasylab installed then the latest version of the device driver is located in the \driver folder. Sample worksheets and data sheets are also included in the appropriate folders. \MANUALS The \Manuals folder contains product line Users Manuals that are stored in Acrobat .pdf file format. \S1000.DOS The \S1000.DOS folder contains the latest version of DOS software for use with Omega products. This software is not installed from the CD-ROM during Windows Utility Software installation. The DOS software can be run directly from the CD or copied into a new folder on an existing harddrive and run from there. Start the program by typing 1000.bat. \S2000.DOS The \S2000.DOS folder contains the latest version of DOS software for use with Omega products. This software is not installed from the CD-ROM during Windows Utility Software installation. It is compatible with DOS versions lower than 4.0. The DOS software can be run directly from the CD or copied into a new folder on an existing harddrive and run from there. Start the program by typing 2000.bat. \SCANSOFT.DOS The \SCANSOFT.DOS folder contains the latest version of DOS datalogging software for use with Omega products. This software is not installed from the CD-ROM during Windows Utility Software installation. The DOS software can be copied into a new folder on an existing harddrive and run from there. Start the program by typing scan.bat. \VBASIC The \VB folder contains four seperate folders that each contain an example Visual Basic program written for a specific version. The VB samples utilize the MSCOMM ActiveX control and do not use the ActiveX controls mentioned above. Select the proper folder associated with the version of Visual Basic being used. \HYPERTERMINAL The \Hyperterminal folder contains configuration files for the Windows program Hyper-terminal. Hyper-terminal is an optional installation program when the Windows operating system is installed onto a hard drive. If Hyper-terminal is installed then select the proper configuration file from this folder for the version of Windows being used. Connect the DGH module to COM1: of the host computer and ground the Default* pin on the module. With the configuration file loaded, type $1RD and press the key. A data value should be returned and displayed on the terminal screen. Hyper-terminal can be used to verify that a module is communicating properly with the host computer. \WINDISKS The \WinDisks folder contains the individual floppy disk files required to distribute the Windows Utility Software "winsetup.exe" file. Users that do not have access to a CD-ROM to install the winsetup.exe program can have floppies made by a friend or agency using the files in this folder. Then install the program onto any computer using the floppies.
