I just added and tested a new command script for the esp user on the
ship laptop:

esp@ship$   callSchedule  {interval in minutes}  {uptime in minutes}  
{connect command}

interval is the interval in minutes between calls

uptime is the desired duration of each call in minutes

the optional {connect command} is a command that will be run immediately
upon establishing each connection
(at the start of each call)

Typically, I see it being used something like this:

$  callSchedule  10  3   update

You'll have to play around with the parameters for yourselves to find
what works best in practice.

I recommand running the callSchedule command in a separate, small
terminal window.
If you hit control-C before a connection is established, it will hang up
the phone.
However, if you hit control-C while the connection is up, it will remain
up indefinately.
I did this because I found that, in practice, you might want to prevent
the phone from hanging up as scheduled.
Just type hangup to hang up the connection whenever when in doubt.  It
does nothing if the connection is already down.
