AB: A laser-induced fluorescence technique for in situ measurement of atmospheric HONO is described. The technique is based on photofragmentation of HONO followed by probing the vibrationally excited OH at 282 nm and measuring the fluorescence around 309 nm. The instrument is calibrated using standard addition of HONO. The system will be deployed during the Antarctic Tropospheric Chemistry Investigation (ANTCI) by the end of this year. The limit of detection is estimated to be around 10ppt or better in five minutes, which is adequate to address many problems in photochemistry.
