The UV radiometer payload was launched from the west coastal area of Korea Peninsula on a KSR-III (Korea Sounding
Rocket-III), third generation Korean sounding rocket launched at 14:52 LST on 28 Nov 2002. The ozone experiment payload
consists of UV and visible radiometers to measure the direct attenuation of solar UV at four wavelengths centered at 255,
290, and 310nm, respectively. Visible channels centered at 450nm are used for rocket attitude correction. The filter
transmission and phototube response characteristics of each channel were calibrated with the monochromator system at the
optical laboratory in KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute). Measured solar UV attenuation is converted into ozone column
density as a function of altitude and the vertical profile of ozone number density is obtained. This result was compared
with other observations such as ozonesonde, Umkehr, and satellite measurements of POAM-III and HALOE. Reasonable agreements
were found among the measurements. The sensitivity of the retrieval algorithm is investigated for errors in parameters where
absorption cross section and wavelength bias are found to be significant error sources.
