The Improved Limb Atmospheric Spectrometer (ILAS)-II on the Advanced
Earth Observing Satellite (ADEOS)-II was launched on 14 December, 2002.
ILAS-II started to measure vertical profiles of several trace gas
concentrations, aerosol extinction coefficients, temperature and
pressure in the polar stratosphere from January 2003. In this study
we will present initial validation results of the ILAS-II version
1.0 and 1.1 data through comparisons with multiple satellite-borne
solar occultation sensors, the Halogen Occultation Experiment (HALOE),
the Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE) III and the Polar
Ozone and Aerosol Measurement (POAM) III. The ILAS-II O$_3$, H$_2$O
and NO$_2$ profiles were compared with the HALOE, SAGE III and POAM III
measurements. The ILAS-II CH$_4$ profiles were compared with the HALOE.
The ILAS-II measurements of temperature and pressure were compared
with the HALOE and the SAGE III measurements. The results suggest that
the ILAS-II O$_3$ data agree well with correlative measurements.
The ILAS-II data on the other gases, temperature and pressure
have some differences from correlative data.
