AB: The SAGE III instrument measures the vertical distribution of atmospheric gases and aerosols by measuring the attenuation of the sun or moon's rays observed through the limb of the earth's atmosphere. The lunar measurements increase the SAGE III/Meteor mission's geographic coverage and create the opportunity to detect the nocturnal species nitrogen trioxide and chlorine dioxide, in addition to ozone and nitrogen dioxide. This paper describes the techniques employed to perform the chemical species retrieval, altitude registration, and preliminary results of the first 15 months of data.
