An improved version of the particle-into-liquid-sampler (PILS) was deployed to study the aerosol chemical composition in the
NEAQS 2002 field campaign. Major ionic species of aerosol particles smaller than 2.5 $\mu$m (PM 2.5) were analyzed by ionic
chromatography. The SO$_{4}$$^{2-}$, NO$_{3}$$^{-}$, and NH$_{4}$$^{+}$ were quantified with a time resolution of three
minutes. The soluble carbon species was analyzed by a total organic analyzer. The preliminary results were analyzed for
better understanding of pollution sources and transport in New England area.
