AB:
We give an overview of the techniques that are currently used in both ground-based (e.g. NLDN, LDAR/LMA, SAFIR) and
satellite-based (e.g. OTD, LIS, FORTE) lightning detection systems, the key performance parameters (e.g.
Detection-Efficiency, Location-Accuracy, and False Reports), and the algorithms that each system uses to time-tag lightning
"events" and count "flashes" and "strokes."
