AB: Using ICESat 8-day repeat tracks from both Laser-1 and potentially Laser-2 over Antarctica, we compare and contrast spatial interpolation techniques at cross-over locations. Our goal is to investigate an interpolator that would use both elevation statistics and local characteristics such as slopes and curvatures as a-priori information. The improvement of the interpolated surface heights and characteristic estimates using additional along-track/across-track data will be investigated. Preliminary analyses show kriging produces different results from simple linear interpolation for certain surface types. We are currently analyzing and binning 15000+ cross-overs based on surface types, slope-residual RMS, and time-difference. With additional calibrations to reduce systematic errors, we anticipate our results will provide both spatial characteristics and time rate of change in elevation in the ice sheets.
