The Experimental Climate Prediction Center (ECPC) is currently using the NCEP/DOE Reanalysis II (RII) model and the ECPC
version of the NCEP seasonal forecast model (SFM) to provide global model output for the Coordinated Enhanced Observing
Period (CEOP). The resolutions of these two global models are T62L28 and both global models are initialized from the RII. The
output from the RII model and SFM include analysis files (F00), and forecast files every 3hours (F03 and F06) from
short-range 6-hour forecasts initialized every 6 hours (00, 06, 12, 18 UTC). Every 24 hours (12 UTC), the 6 hour forecast is
extended to 36 hours and again model output is available every 3 hours of the 36 hour forecast. The output from Jul. 1,
2001-Dec. 31, 2004 at several international reference sites as well as in gridded form will be sent to the Max Planck
Institute for Meteorology (MPIM), who will soon make it and similar model output from 9 other international centers available
to the entire global research community. Preliminary comparisons of ECPC model output to in situ measurements at several
tower sites have already shown several potential ECPC model deficiencies including: excessive evaporation and diurnal biases
in the precipitation. These comparisons will be described at the meeting.
