AB: The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer - Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) is a mission instrument launched aboard NASA's Aqua Satellite on 4 May 2002. It is a multichannel passive microwave radiometer that is capable of measuring geophysical variables in the global water cycle, such as snow, sea ice, sea surface temperature, precipitation and soil moisture, providing finer spatial resolution than previously possible with spaceborne microwave radiometers. The National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC) Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) will archive and distribute all AMSR-E products, including Levels 1A, 2, and 3 data. Users can order Level-1A AMSR-E data beginning 19 June 2003 and Level-2A data shortly after 01 September 2003. Other products will be available in March 2004. This poster provides an overview of each of the AMSR-E data products that are or will be available from NSIDC, including sample images and a description of the processing steps that generate higher level products from the lower level products.
