Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS) onboard EOS AQUA platform has
capability to retrieve carbon trace gases with particularly distinct
signature in the 300-800 hPa region. The current presentation will
describe the methodology, limitations and current skills of estimating
total column carbon dioxide, profiles of methane and carbon monoxide
from AIRS data. Analysis of the preliminary retrieval
will be presented with an emphasis to study the diurnal, and zonal
variation of these gases over North America and Brazil. A quick look
at AIRS CO product shows that it captured some fire signature in
September 2002. A brief discussion will be presented comparing the
retreived products with other in-situ observation.
