The MODIS Level-2 Cloud Mask Products MOD35\_L2 (MODIS
-TERRA) and MYD35\_L2 (MODIS-AQUA) are available globally day and night at a pixel resolution of 1 km by 1 km.
The cloud mask is based on a series of spectral cloud detection tests and estimates the probability of a pixel being clear
with varying degrees of confidence (Platnick et al).
We attempt to explore the possibility of adapting the MODIS Cloud Mask Product to other instruments on the Terra and Aqua
Satellites that have a coarser pixel resolution as compared to the MODIS pixel.
From a data center (e.g. GES-DAAC) perspective, this could potentially have a positive impact on the distribution system and
better serve end users who require a lower resolution cloud mask product for their applications.
