Using data from both EOS Terra and Aqua platforms, we present spatial correlations between carbon monoxide amounts and
biomass burning locations. Retrieved tropospheric carbon monoxide comes to us via the Atmospheric InfaRed Sounder (AIRS)
onboard Aqua. Fire locations are provided from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) onboard Terra.
Comparing these two products we can begin to quantify biomass burning vs industrial sources of carbon monoxide. Locations of
coincident fire and high CO imply sources such as wild fires, where as areas of high CO and no nearby fire indicate
industrial sources such as fossil fuel combustion or long range transport. For example on September 6, 2002 high CO and
increased fire counts are seen in southwestern Brazil, central southern Africa, eastern Europe, and Borneo. Results for
additional days will be presented.
