We present results on site effects for the determination of magnitude {\it mb}. We collected data from teleseismic events
($30\deg$$<$ $\Delta$ $<$$80\deg$) recorded by the Kyrgyz Digital Seismic Network (KNET) in northern Tien Shan from 1991 to
1998. Our results show {\it mb} residual with respect to reference data from PDE catalog has significant directional
variation, from -0.1 to -0.8 unit of {\it mb} scale. We discuss the alternative sources of directional dependence of {\it
P}-wave energy in terms of seismic attenuation and local bedrock topography structure beneath KNET.
