TI: RHESSI Observations of Coronal Hard X-Ray Sources in August 2003 Solar Flares

AB: Although the general level of solar activity was relatively low during August 2003, several active regions produced a large number of small (GOES class C or smaller) solar flares during this period. The high energy spectroscopic imager aboard the RHESSI spacecraft imaged many of these flares at X-ray energies greater than 10 keV. A preliminary analysis of these observations has revealed the presence of coronal hard X-ray sources in flares which occurred behind the solar limb as well as in those flares which were apparently located on the visible disk of the Sun. X-ray images and spectra of these coronal hard X-ray sources will be presented and their implications with respect to the models of solar flares will be briefly discussed.
