Sharing data with a broader community is now simplified. Streamlined data access interfaces tailored to community-specific
needs is now possible. The framework provided by the EOS Clearinghouse (ECHO) enables the interoperability of diverse,
distributed data, services and data access tools enabling members of the science community to share their data, services and
tools with the rest of the community. The result is streamlined data access for the science community. As a metadata
clearinghouse, ECHO supports multiple data access paradigms that make data access more efficient for end users. New options
also can serve to eliminate zero-hit and mega-hit results sets. An open well documented, message based interface allows
various providers to build their own user interfaces so they are not limited by any single integrated data search and order
system. This exchange is available via application program interfaces (APIs) based on eXtensible Markup Language (XML) and
web service technologies. The ECHO framework is reusable for non-Earth science applications that also have a need to bring
together diverse and distributed systems, services and tools.
