TI: Comparition and implications to volcanic risk of last effusive activities of 1997-2000 and 2001-2003 at Volcan de Fuego de Colima, Mexico

AB: Volc n de Colima is one of the most active volcanoes Mexico and is an andesitic stratovolcano located along the western front of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt. Last eruptive activities at Volc n de Colima, Mexico occurred in 1997-2000 and 2001-2003 periods. Both eruptive periods are characterized by the formation of a lavadome, that were destroyed by explosions. Both process shown different behavior of the lava emission rate, reaches of explosions and originated pyroclastic flows. While lava dome of 1998-2000 activity was formed in 24 hours the 2001-2003 activity was formed in 6 months. Volcan de Colima monitoring parameters as seismicity, deformation and SO2 - flux emission rate shown different tendencies before and during these activity periods. In the last 500 years four big explosions are identified in this volcano. Statistically it is possible to identify a big explosion each 100 year (Luhr 1990a). The last big explotion occurred in 1913, for this reason the comparison of two eruptive periods are important to evaluate the risk and prevent to the community located around the volcano edifice.
