The unrest of Mt. Etna in Fall 2002 marked a renewal of effusive activity shortly after the previous eruptive episode, which
occurred between July and August 2001. The brief time span between the two eruptions and the similarities in the composition
of the volcanic products erupted have led to surmise their strict link, which is supported by several geophysical evidence as
well.
Seismic swarms and remarkable changes in volcanic tremor at the beginning of both eruptions characterized seismic activity
recorded at the permanent seismic network. We analyze the main features of volcanic tremor between the 2002-2003 eruption,
providing a characterization of this signal in the time and frequency domains. We discuss the amplitude and frequency
variations at several seismic stations, which are located at different distances with respect to the volcanic source.
Besides, we propose a comparison with the previous eruptive episode, during which remarkable changes in the amplitude of
volcanic tremor accompanied and marked different styles of eruptive activity.
