The nature and identity of organic compounds in cloud droplets is not well understood. Several studies have examined organic
compounds in polluted environments; however, less is known about the organic content of clouds in remote and rural
environments. To help address this issue, cloud water samples were collected on the western summit of Mt. Werner (3220m MSL)
in the Park Range of northwestern Colorado during the North American monsoon in summer 2005. Measurements of cloud liquid
water content, cloud pH, and cloud water concentrations of total organic carbon (TOC), dissolved organic carbon (DOC),
carbohydrates, formaldehyde, low molecular weight organic acids and carbonyls, and organic nitrogen for cloud droplets will
be presented and compared to previous observations in other locations. In particular, we will examine contributions of
measured organic compounds to DOC. Additionally, observations of the composition of aerosol samples collected between cloud
events for characterization of solvent and water soluble organic compounds, for comparison to cloud water samples, will be
presented.
