AB: We have developed a global model, IMPACT, that contains both a full tropospheric and stratospheric chemistry, as well as a full suite of aerosol species. Using NASA/GMAO/GEOS-4 high resolution (1x1.25 degree) meteorological 5-day forecast fields we predict black carbon, organic carbon, seasalt and dust aerosol distributions near Pt. Reyes, CA during July 2005. Additionally, we used late-look GEOS-4 assimilated meteorological fields to hindcast (and therefore, diagnose) the distributions of the same species. These distributions are compared to the absorption and scattering coefficients measured during sampling near Pt. Reyes, CA in 2005. The model black carbon distribution tracks quite well with the measured absorption coefficient, while the model dust and seasalt track well with the measured scattering coefficient. We also compare the two model runs (forecast and hindcast) to quantify the validity of the forecast fields.
