A new longwave radiation scheme is developed on the basis of an optimal approach of overlapping bands of absorptive gases.
Then, It is applied into CAM2.0/NCAR. It is shown by comparing with the original radiation scheme in CAM2.0 that longwave
radiative flux is more consistent with that of NECP and ECMWF data in some areas; the modeling results are improved for the
monthly and yearly averaged precipitation strength at mid to high latitude of south and north hemisphere, yearly averaged low
clouds in east part of Atlantic ocean and longwave cloud radiative forcing at TOA.
