Mid-latitude total column ozone appears to have leveled off since the mid-1990's. The timing of this leveling off is
important for attribution reasons. The timing is also critical for a variety of trend detection techniques used in detecting
ozone turn-around. This presentation summarizes approaches used to estimate the timing of the turn-around in mid-latitude
stratospheric ozone. A number of sources including atmospheric models, ozone data and trace gas data are used giving a range
of estimates. The results of this work show that ozone data alone may not be the best source of information for determining
the date of turn-around in mid-latitude ozone data. The timing of the turn-around affects the derived trends and the
uncertainty in the timing of the turn-around affects the uncertainty of the derived trends.
