AB: This talk will present a brief overview of the CloudSat mission and will highlight key early results derived from the first few weeks of data. The focus of discussion will be directed towards using CloudSat data to improve knowledge of the Earth's water cycle and, specifically, cloud and precipitation microphysics. New results on convection and precipitation regimes will be provided and new insights into the frequency of drizzle in low clouds will be addressed. The broader relevance of these new findings to climate will be underscored.
