Measurements of tropospheric aerosols were obtained with a Raman lidar system at Chebogue Point, Nova Scotia, during the
ICARTT (International Consortium for Atmospheric Research on Transport and Transformation) campaign. Measurements on 11-13
July 2004 revealed aerosols throughout much of the lower troposphere and up to 8 km in altitude. MODIS satellite data were
used to track the aerosols back to forest fires in Alaska, where another lidar was operating at Barrow. The high degree of
structure that arose in transit between the two locations has provided some interesting new data on long-range transport and
mixing.
