AB: Measurements from the satellite instrument SCIAMACHY over North America have been analysed for tropospheric NO2 signals in the ICARTT time frame (July - August 2004). This data was provided as a contribution to the multinational ICARTT experiment. Extensive aircraft measurements were conducted during the campaign providing a data set of tropospheric NO2 profiles measured by an airborne TD-LIF instrument. Collocated NO2 columns from the satellite and the integrated in-situ profiles were compared, showing good qualitative agreement. However, the results depend significantly on the assumptions made for the profile integration. This and other limitations of the validation exercise will be discussed.
