The RACM chemical mechanism is widely used for atmospheric chemistry research and air quality modeling. It has been updated
and expanded to include more detailed aromatic and isoprene chemistry and less reactive compounds, such as benzene and
acetone. This greater detail will allow more complete comparisons between RACM2 simulations and field measurements. The
RACM and RACM2 mechanisms were compared and evaluated using environmental chamber data. The two mechanisms were used to
simulate a wide variety of initial chemical concentrations, altitudes and seasons. Isopleths of the concentrations and
differences of ozone, hydroxyl radical, nitric acid and other species were compared. The results of this evaluation and
comparison will be presented.
