AB: HIRDLS (High Resolution Dynamics Limb Sounder) temperature data is retrieved jointly from 4 channels located in the 15.27 - 16.26 um range. Its vertical resolution is about 1 km with more than 6000 profiles a day. This covers the earth globally twice a day, day and night. Its high spatial and temporal resolutions give important information about stratospheric wave activity. In particular wave activities such as Kelvin, gravity, and planetary waves are observed with very high vertical resolution, in some case showing 3-4 km wavelength in HIRDLS temperature data. The analysis results are compared with other data sets such as sondes, MLS, GPS, and GMAO.
