AB: The total column ozone retrieval algorithm developed for the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) system is designed to take advantage of the hyperspectral capabilities of the OMPS nadir-mapping sensor. Like the OMPS nadir mapping sensor, Aura's Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) is a hyperspectral CCD push-broom sensor, and the OMPS algorithm can be used to process, and assess, OMI data. Although the OMPS algorithm is similar in many respects to the TOMS Version 8 algorithm that NASA uses to process OMI data, it is designed to use measurements from many more wavelengths over a larger spectral range. This feature of the algorithm can be used to study the inter-wavelength consistency of the OMI calibration to provide useful feedback that can be used to assess OMI calibration. In this talk, we will present results using OMI data in conjunction with the OMPS algorithm to assess OMI inter-wavelength performance.
