A high resolution (0.06cm-1) Fourier transform spectrometer was deployed aboard the NASA DC8 aircraft during the recent
Polar Aura Validation Experiment (PAVE) conducted from a base at 43.0N and 70.5W in January and February 2005. Observations
of the absorption of solar infrared radiation by the atmosphere above the aircraft were made during 8 research flights.
Flight paths intersected the edge of the strong polar vortex present at the time of the program. Absorption spectra are
analyzed using an optimal estimation fitting scheme (SFIT2) to produce column amounts, and some profile information, for a
number of atmospheric gases, including: HCl, HF, O3, H2O, N2O, CH4, HNO3, NO2, F12,
C2H6. Results are available for comparison with observations by instruments aboard the EOS Aura spacecraft.
