AB: The Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite (OMPS) includes a Limb Profiler that will measure ozone absorption features in the spectrum of limb scattered sunlight to determine the vertical profile of ozone in the stratosphere and lower mesosphere, with a vertical resolution of 2 to 3 km. OMPS will be carried by selected spacecraft of the National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) as well as by the NASA/NPOESS NPP spacecraft. The OMPS Limb Profiler is a spectral imager, imaging the full vertical limb of the Earth at three locations in every frame. Stray light will be a significant problem because of the large vertical and spectral contrasts in the intensity of limb scattered sunlight. We discuss several approaches to correcting the measured radiances for contamination by stray light, and present preliminary results for each.
