Since years the scientific community discusses controversially the solar activity modulated coupling between galactic cosmic
rays (GCRs) and cloudiness, which by itself affects the natural climate variability. To further evaluate this GCR-cloud link
we have started the project 'SAtellite and model studies of GAlactic cosmic rays and Clouds modulated by
solar activity' (SAGACITY) as part of the German DFG priority program CAWSES. SAGACITY focus on satellite
limb-observations of cirrus
clouds. The long-term 20 year data record of subvisible cirrus occurrence observed by the SAGE II is analysed as well as
episodes of solar proton events and the subsequent Forbush decreases using recent data of the Michelson Interferometer for
Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS) instrument onboard ENVISAT. In addition, we plan to develop appropriate nucleation
parameterisations and their implementation in the chemical transport model CLaMS for theoretical model studies of the
GCR-cloud link. Our proposed activities during SAGACITY and first results will be presented.
