The Water Isotope Intercomparison mission that grew from the spirit of validation that is essential for the in situ
instruments that support the AURA mission, has provided a new high quality data set of water isotope observations with the
built in capability for critical evaluation. We will discuss the observations of the two Harvard water vapor isotope
instruments with a focus on the scientific implications that result from the comparison of the two independent measurements
of water isotopes during the July 2005 test flight series. We will base the analysis on the level of consistency between the
several water and the two water isotope data sets reported during the mission in an effort to assign some quantitative
confidence in the observations. In addition, we will discuss the idiosyncrasies of each water isotope instrument and how
these characteristics influence our own confidence in the reported observations. The conclusions based on these quantitative
and qualitative evaluations will be used to establish our best estimate for the abundance of water isotopes in the upper
troposphere and lower stratosphere during this flight series.
