Aerosols remain a major uncertainty in our understanding of atmospheric climate forcing processes. Aerosols are highly
variable in both time and space due to their relatively short atmospheric life time. Natural and anthropogenic aerosols are
emitted and transported to the United Arab Emirates to make up a diverse, mixed atmospheric aerosol composition with
interesting impacts on cloud and radiation processes. Airborne and ground based measurements have been made over the UAE
during the United Arab Emirates Unified Aerosol Experiment (UAE2) using a Passive Cavity Aerosol Spectrometer Probe (PCASP)
and CIMEL Sun Photometers, respectively. Data have also been collected over several seasons in the UAE to characterize the
differences between summer and winter. The atmosphere over the UAE is well structured with several distinctive layers of
atmospheric stability forming bands of aerosols. The aerosol size distributions have been measured by the PCASP and derived
from the Sun Photometer Data. The aerosols are generally well mixed with both fine (anthropogenic) and coarse (dust)
aerosols contributing in a significant manner to the total aerosol loading. The Spatial and temporal variation in aerosol
characteristics will be explored in this paper. In addition atmospheric transport of aerosols to and from the UAE region
will be explored.
