AB: New measurements from the Microwave Limb Sounder and other sensors associated with NASA A-Train are providing unprecedented new prospects for characterizing cloud processes in the upper troposphere, such as structures and evolution of cloud amount, cloud ice content, particle size, and temperature and humidity. When augmented with dynamical quantities, such data offer new opportunity to describe and understand cloud microphysics and its connections to large-scale dynamics. Here, we present preliminary results of cross-comparison and validation of upper tropospheric cloud measurements Aura-MLS with near-simultaneous cloud observations from Aqua AIRS and MODIS instruments during formation flying, their consistency in describing upper-tropospheric cloud processes will be discussed, and this information will be used to understand representations of convection, clouds and microphysical processes in regional and global atmospheric models.
