The Asian monsoon is the major precipitation source and an important system within the global climate. In this paper, we
highlight the role that aerosol induced land-atmosphere interactions may play in modulating the multi-scale aspect of Indian
monsoons. To illustrate these aspects, the various nonlinear feedbacks due to aerosol/diffuse radiation on coupled
interactions are discussed. It is suggested that because of the magnitude of aerosol loading and the nature of
land-atmosphere interactions, there is a potential that aerosol-land-surface feedbacks are central in modulating the
mesoscale monsoonal characteristics in the Indo-Ganges Basin.
