We have developed an automated observatory for measuring ground-based column abundances of greenhouse gases. The gas
abundances are determined from analysis of high-resolution near-infrared spectra of the direct sun. The laboratory is
located in the heavily forested Chequamegon National Forest at the WLEF Tall Tower site, 14 km east of Park Falls, Wisconsin.
Using these column CO2 measurements, we evaluate regional-scale drawdown in CO2 during sunny days in northern
Wisconsin.
